Short Game Bunting Lessons


Depending on the type of hitter, an expert short game can substantially increase the hitter’s batting average while increasing team offensive options and putting pressure on opposing defenses.

Expertise will be tested, measured and tracked for improvement.

Short game skills include:

♦  Sacrifice Bunt

Purpose: Move runner(s) to the next base.

Techniques: Athletic position, head over plate, safe but effective grip, bat angle, eyes aim over bat, placement, take all balls, timing.

♦  Drag Bunt (Right Side)

Purpose: Base hit.

Techniques: Sprinting position, rolling start, bat angle, safe but effective grip, eyes aim over bat, placement, take all balls, timing, laying ball soft.

♦  Drag Bunt (Left Side)

Purpose: Base hit.

Techniques: Staying low, footwork, timing, placement, bat angle, taking, safe but effective grip, laying ball soft, speed to first.

♦  Push Bunt

Purpose: Base hit.

Techniques: Athletic position, head over plate, safe but effective grip, bat angle, eyes aim over bat, placement, take all balls, timing, footwork, getting speed on the ball.

♦  Slap Bunt (Right Side)

Purpose: Move runner and/or base hit.

Techniques: Athletic position, show bunt and read defense, choke, short swing, placement, timing, footwork.

♦  Slap Hit (Left Side)

Purpose: Base hit.

Techniques: Power generation on the run, footwork, timing, speed to first.

♦  Squeeze Bunt

Purpose: Score Runner from third.

Techniques: Same as sacrifice bunt, but bunt all pitches stoppable by the catcher.
